Anna May Wong, originally known as Wong Liu Tsong-- was the first Chinese American film star recognized in the United States and internationally. Despite her struggles against racism, discrimination, typecasting and personal losses --her career spanned four decades. She appeared in over sixty films, stage and television. Wong's legacy has paved the way for a number of Asian American actors. She was definitely an inspiration as she pursued her love for theater even though it called for multiple sacrifices--both professionally and personally. Her achievements were acknowledged when she was memorialized on the reverse of a US quarter coin --- a lasting impact.
