Mistletoe extract injections are a real, but controversial, cancer treatment in the realm of "complementary medicine." Mistletoe was proposed as a cure cancer because "like cures like" - mistletoe is a parasitic plant that can kill its host, the way cancer can take over a body.

This series is supposed to take place during the post World War II era (1947). The use of lethal injection did not take place in the United States until 1977. California never implemented the use of the electric chair. The method of execution used in California was the gas chamber until lethal injection was authorized for use in 1993. From 1937 to 1992, California used gas for executions except in 1942 when they hanged a man. Further, California's only electric chair was housed at San Quentin, and it was never used. Lastly, the governor refers to the chair as "Old Sparky". The nickname "Old Sparky" was used for the electric chair in the state of Georgia, not California.
