It's both a delightful and slightly melancholic feeling when a short film you stumble upon while wandering the depths of the internet turns out to be unexpectedly good because it reminds you that quality and praiseworthy work often doesn't get the recognition it deserves.

This French short film has a seemingly ordinary premise: passionate lovers sneak away for a night in a hotel, but the woman's phone in her purse keeps buzzing with incoming messages, abruptly spoiling the mood.

The characters are quite classic; a frivolous, cheeky and manipulative woman and jealous, possessive and passionate man. And the actors completely throw themselves into their roles. Even half of this level of performance is rarely seen in short films, bravo.

And of course, the director-screenwriter manages to masterfully locks the viewer into the screen from the very first seconds of the film. It's very admirable how she turns scenes that could have been utterly conventional or even boring into something strikingly authentic and emotionally real.

Note: It struck me just after the film ended: this short film shares a similar theme with one of my favorite songs, "Klavier": if you play with fire, you get burned.
