With "The Puppeteer" writer-director Jacky St. James comes into her own at Sweet Sinner, after paying her dues with many features in the wake of founder Nica Noelle and interim director James Avalon at the label. This highly original feature is her handiwork, while she continues the Couples Romance label's traditions with other new releases like "The Babysitter 13".

I'll be brief to avoid spoilers, but the strong story line (rather than mere vignettes as SS fans have become accustomed to of late) concerns a murder case investigated by police detective Logan Pierce, involving some attractive if suspicious female characters including Kristen Scott, India Summer, Syren De Mer and the irresistible cutie Kenna James. Plenty of double-dealing, an elusive winning lottery ticket and other solid mystery details propel the piece, which Jacky carefully does not divide so neatly into the 4 distinct sex vignettes that usually constitute a Sweet Sinner feature. 

The acting is exemplary and storytelling both engrossing and able to fool the viewer as to what final reels plot twists will occur. Location shooting at my favorite Adult Cinema location, the "Immoral Proposal" remodeled mansion with its iconic spiral staircase adds to the atmosphere. 

Jacky's handling of several femme fatale roles here convinces me that she would be an ideal choice to handle modern versions of the classic H.G. Clouzot "Diabolique" format. A fine Kenna performance dovetails with her arresting current starring role in Stills & Mills' "Fantasy Factory Wastelands" epic for rival Gamma Entertainment in establishing her as a great new talent on the Adult scene.
