After the premiere of the music video, an alternate version was edited where the character Billy, played by Gregory Sporleder, was roughly cut from the video and replaced by shots of Sheryl Crow, since that director David Hogan felt that Billy distracted the attention of Crow. In this version Billy appears briefly going around Crow and her band only in long takes, and his face never is seen clearly.

Alternate versions
There are two versions of the music video: the original featured the character "Billy", mentioned in the song, played by actor Gregory Sporleder; a second version of the video was released with the character's close-up and American shot edited out (he is only visible from the back in long shots, walking from a side to another in front of the band). The edited version appears on Crow's "Greatest Hits" music video DVD.
