"It's Almost True" was born from the reencounter between writer André Campos Mesquita and director Emanuel Mendes. Both had already worked together on Mendes's previous film, "Amarar" (2008). At the time, Mesquita wished to make a real documentary about homeless people in São Paulo, and Mendes wanted to shoot an ironic comedy about the ever growing fixation of Brazilian Cinema in showing only the poverty, the slums and the violence in the country in festivals worldwide. Joining forces, the duo created the screenplay for "It's Almost True", a mockumentary which plays and ridicule the modus operandi and the establishment of Brazilian Cinema.
