"Atacama" is a film that belongs to independent cinema, from which satisfactory results can be obtained in terms of the experience of those involved and the way they convey their ideals thru what is seen on screen. It is a creative proposal that seeks a way to tell an intriguing story, with reflections and a different perspective.

The film employs a non-linear narrative, but it has its predominant connection thru various details depicted in the images. Stories that connect with each other as the scenes progress, all with the aim of providing experiences for each character, with the cleverness of reflecting those reflective themes that speak for themselves. One must take into consideration the work behind a low-budget and largely improvised production; however, the final result, despite not being a masterpiece, does carry significant weight and achieves its objective. An admirable film despite all the chaos in its production.

From a cinematic perspective, the cinematography should be highlighted, the filming focused on environmental shots, the sequences, the lighting, and those interesting nuances within the script, also adding all the effort, dedication, creativity, and teamwork. "Atacama" is as symbolic as it is simple, but with a great underlying feeling. Director Enrique R. Bencomo did a very decent job, with professionalism under pressure, great camera angles, and a very good level of talent, even knowing all the barriers along the way.

This film is a clear example that it is indeed possible to contribute to independent cinema, to Venezuelan cinema, and that versatility in the face of problems can yield a satisfactory result. It is the representation of a dream, talent, and the union between ideals, key to delivering a credible product.

Here, topics such as greed, morbid curiosity, perseverance, trust, sacrifice, double intentions, manipulation thru mental weakness, psychological abuse, humiliation, vulnerability, and isolation are covered. A metaphor is also applied in reference to each story with greed and self-wellbeing, drawing a parallel with the consequences of your actions in relation to the aforementioned. The desert, on the other hand, represents the main protagonist and spectator of the characters' actions or objectives, all with the aim of providing a window for analysis and reflection on each event.

In that sense, this movie has many debatable points or aspects that leave much to be desired, but it does have great merit in terms of its production and effort. Perhaps for many viewers it may seem simple or even bad, but it's all a matter of expectations and interpreting the message being conveyed. Could it have been better? Totally, but those weak points are part of the whole experience.
