Why they don't give awards for performance in a music video? Actually, they give but it's more about the artist and the song, rather than what they act, how they act and delivering something spectacular or even some acting. Annie Lennox in "Why" should be worthy of mention in categories like acting, makeup and costume design because everything is first-rate, you are mesmerized by all the things she does in the clip.

The act of carefully preparing herself in front of the mirror, the eyeliner, the makeup and then her transformation with the feathered costume, almost like a refined version of Carmen Miranda and without the fruits over her head, it all feels like a visual effect happening in front of you. Lennox sings in a few bits, other times it's just the power of expressive face, looking in the mirror or at the camera, and only in the "rant" part of the song with the things that are not her or doesn't belong to her, that she goes in full force, as if lashing out on someone, words like punches.

And you may wonder why such concept for such a powerful song that questions emotions of a failed relationship filled with bad feelings, lack of communication, sadness, and those kind of perceptions. And we don't see anyone there with her, no actor to play the partner. You can see it as a full act of liberation, of expression at his most urgent and most needed, and all by herself she's forgetting the partner, she's turning into a better version of herself, and one that feels free and open to live differently, with more purpose and with great care. But those feelings needed to be addressed, the words need to come out and in that very special way.

It's an interesting combination of elements, and when you embrace the lyrics, feel what's being said and represented, watch closely the acting, you get some very meaningful.

To watch without such input, you still get a beautiful and wondrous presentation, excellent camera work, cinematography and editing, a lovely song with the voice of an angel that cuts deep with emotion. 9/10.
