A huge track back at the time of its release, due to the anxious long wait for their third album after the smash hit "A Rush of Blood to the Head", Coldplay released the memorable "Speed of Sound" with its unforgettable keyboard notes and inspired vocals by Chris Martin. The video, however, as many produced for "X & Y" were made as minimalist and simple as possible, without the visual extravagance presented in the other previous videos such as the life on reverse brilliantly presented in "The Scientist" or the enigmatic "God Put a Smile Upon Your Face". This one presents a band performance in between fast cuts, plenty of colored lights but everyone's face is obscured through shadows up until the very final image.

It's a nice clip but quite unusual. Great editing and cinematography but I wonder why the band wanted to keep themselves hidden. Strange concept that works in a way, it's different than the usual, many artists have done before but it's pointless in order to promote a group or an artist. But thankfully, the great song is what makes it all more special, though I don't listen to it as much as I did back in 2005 - good old days. It lost some of its effect on me. From same album and back to a more conceptual video there's the amazing sci-fi oriented classic "Talk", where they go to the moon to help a cute giant robot. Nostalgia feelings speak higher with me when it comes to this particular and music videos so that's why the rating goes a little overboard and because Mark Romanek is a great director as well, not just clips but also in movies ("One Hour Photo" is an underrated classic). 8/10.
