Summaries

  • In the apartment of Vadim Nikolaevich, guests gathered to celebrate New Year. He unsuccessfully tries to get through to his friend Nina. He, dialing a number, gets to the girl, who is also called Nina. Her answers seem strange to Vadim Nikolaevich, until he understands that in some extraordinary way he is talking with a child from Moscow in 1942. Remembering her hungry military childhood, the hero tells the girl that in one of the Moscow courtyards she can find bread cards that he dropped more than 30 year ago, playing with the guys. The next day, Vadim Nikolaevich found out the address of the girl from the old telephone book and went to her, not understanding what he could expect from this meeting. The house he was looking for was demolished when laying the New Arbat, but he managed to establish that Nina moved to the South-West and found her apartment. The door was not opened to him. A neighbor who went to the stairwell said that Nina Frolova and her husband had left. When the woman found out the name of the guest, she issued a letter left for him. Vadim Nikolaevich realized that Nina had been waiting for his visit all these years.
