Well made and interesting documentary, but probably too long to engage those without local knowledge

This documentary caught my eye on Vimeo recently. I'm not a creative person by trade, nor do I have any skills when it comes to interior design, but I do know what I like when I see it, and this film does give you the opportunity to see inside a very cool building and within the apartments inside. In doing this the film is quite interesting, and has that extra layer of having and engaged creative community living within it, seemingly proud to speak of their homes and neighbours. The short film makes good use of that, and it does feel like it has welcomed you into their community for 20 minutes.

The history is also quite interesting, although to be honest, if you live in a big city then there are probably loads of converted buildings with stories to tell. In this case the creative link justifies the focus, but the film never really gets over the challenge that there is not a real reason to want to hear this story unless you have some local knowledge. So for me it was interesting in its approach, and the very polished and professional look it all has, but at the same time I had to admit that it wasn't as if the story of #90 Sumach was a strong or unique enough story to really stand out. It is still a well made and interesting documentary, with character in the building and contributions, even if it does run too long to perhaps appeal to all casual viewers.

The short form refers to creative works characterized by their brevity and concise storytelling. Unlike full-length feature films, short films have a running time of less than 45 minutes, while TV shorts have a running time of less than 22 minutes.
