Overly earnest in dialogue and music, but nice idea and the female lead does carry a lot of emotional weight

A woman confronts her brother as to why he skipped yet another family funeral, leading to a discussion of old times and old hurts.

There is a good idea at the core of this short film – well, maybe not a particularly unique one, but one that is well structured so that we understand things better by the end of the film. And I don't mean just the narrative, but also some of the aspects of delivery and construction of the film make more sense in retrospect. The overlapping of solo scenes and shared scenes, the way that the ADR work doesn't cover all scenes; all of this is quite intriguing as delivery through the film, but also works better in context of the whole picture. I do wish the film was not so overly earnest in its delivery though; the dialogue at times is clunky, and in particular the music feels all a bit heavy-handed in its selection and use. These things stand out because I did find the core material/idea to be quite engaging, and a big part of this was the performance from Teves.

While I found Karbo to be a bit silted and unnatural (which to be fair, may have been deliberate), but with Teves she really sells the emotion – whether it is in the scenes alone, sharing happy memories, or sharing hurts; it mostly all feels real and organic thanks to her performance. The film makes good use of her, and the single location; I just wish that it had been as strong in other areas – in particular keeping that natural, organic feel when it came to the tone, and use of music.
