I saw this at NecronomiCon Providence 2026 . The story is original, but makes explicit references to the story by Robert W. Chambers, yet it does so in a way that won't alienate or confuse viewers unfamiliar with that work. I love how the imagery and some of the language are seamlessly embodied in a setting (a slum in Rio) and time period (the present day) so drastically different from the source material. Refreshingly, the lead and most of the other actors are non-white, a sadly unusual element in Weird fiction. But it's not shoved in your face in a preachy, DEI sort of way. The production values, screenplay, and acting are all first-rate. It's a must-see for all fans of Chambers or H. P. Lovecraft.
