There is a painful contrast between Rong Chen's organic body-struggling hard for a place in the group-and the rigidity of his plastic instrument. The breath blown into the recorder is no longer merely a musical technique but a materiality of the soul. Every discordant note, every failed tonguing technique, represents the subject's failure to merge with a social structure that demands uniformity (like the literal meaning of 'Tutti'). Here, the recorder is a mirror of human limitations forced to be harmonious in a world out of tune.

Zhuang Rong Zuo uses the training space not as a backdrop, but as a passive actor. The interaction between Rong Chen and Shao Yu creates a liminal space-a zone between the desire to hold on and the urge to give up. The dialectic between the two of them (one wanting to enter, the other wanting to leave) creates a temporal tension.

The silence between the recorder's breaths is the moment when this film truly "speaks." This silence is not a vacuum but an auditory space filled with what remains unspoken. Like the argument in No Other Choice, where agency is often just an illusion, in Tutti, the choice to "stop playing" (Shao Yu) is the only form of agency left in the face of suffocating demands of collectivity.

The title Tutti-which in music theory means "all players play together"-is a sociological irony. The film exposes the falsehood behind that collective harmony. Through intimate yet distanced filming techniques, we see that "togetherness" is merely the result of punishing discipline.
