At San Diego Comic Con, 2026, co-writers/directors/producers Daley & Goldstein shared that the film will feature "a group of all new characters," in an all new time period. That time period was implied, and later confirmed, to be, "a little further into the future than we've been before," setting the story later in, or past the 32nd century of
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy (2026).
