If you are looking for a tense, entertaining shark thriller, look elsewhere. Above & Below attempts to blend a high-stakes crime hostage situation with deep-sea survival, but it completely fails on almost every level.

The plot is incredibly lazy and predictable, relying entirely on the main characters making the most illogical, brain-dead decisions possible at every single turn. Antonio Banderas seems to be the only one trying to inject some life into the film, but even his efforts can't save a script this weak.

Instead of building suspense, the movie drags heavily. You spend most of the runtime sitting through uninspired, clunky dialogue just waiting for the shark action only to be disappointed by sub-par CGI when it finally happens. It is not scary, it is not thrilling, and worst of all, it is just plain boring.

Save your time and your money. This one belongs at the bottom of the ocean.
