The middle third of the 'Providence Falls' trilogy ("An Impossible Promise") actually turned out to be better than the first.

There's a strong mystery angle to the episode, with more focus on police procedurals than I think I've ever seen from a Hallmark movie. And there was a gun! Surely that has to be a first? Has anyone ever had a gun pointed at them in a Hallmark show?

Hallmark favourite Niall Matter has a few impactful cameo appearances in this instalment. His character is central to probably the biggest plot twist of the show, delivered in a whirlwind last five or ten minutes.

I wrote in my review of part one that the whole idea of the show - time travel, police work, forbidden romance and angels doing their best to get people's souls squared away whilst fighting 'the other side' - is kind of a ludicrous concoction, but it's engaging and fun.

What 'Providence Falls' also is: some of the best stuff we've seen from Hallmark in a long time.
