Instintos presents itself as an intimate psychological thriller built around one of the most vulnerable human states: late pregnancy under threat. The premise is strong... a woman in the final days before giving birth trapped in her remote home by intruders. On paper, this setup carries enormous emotional and cinematic potential. Confinement. Fragility. Instinct. Survival.

The film leans more into psychological unease than explosive action, which is the right choice. It wants to explore fear from within, not through spectacle.

Kate del Castillo carries the emotional weight of the story. Her performance feels committed and physically demanding. She embodies vulnerability without reducing the character to helplessness. There is a grounded intensity in her presence that holds the film together. Without her, the narrative would feel far thinner.

However, where Instintos begins to weaken is in its writing.

The home invasion structure follows very familiar beats. The escalation of danger feels expected rather than shocking.

The emotional core ... the instinct of a mother protecting her child is powerful in theory, but the film does not dig deeply enough into that psychological space.

By the final act, Instintos feels more competent than memorable. It is not a bad film. It maintains tension, delivers solid performances, and never completely collapses under its premise.
