A great classic song with a contemporary video

New Order's "Power, Corruption & Lies" (1983) didn't have the chance to have a single promoted with a music video despite "Blue Monday" being a massive hit that put the band on the map in a definitive way (the song would get a video in 1988 with the remix version). However, some artists and groups started to remaster their old singles and promote with new videos, which is a brilliant idea to present themselves to new audiences and inspire directors in finding a way to present images and ideas that can fit with the song. "Age of Consent", from that particular album, got a clip made. Not exactly a fantastic job - since the group has better - but there's a somewhat connection between images and sound.

In the dark mystery of it all, a sleepless woman (Astrid Grarup Elbo) fights out her insomnia with some strange movements and some dancing, and all leads to her driving recklessly thorugh the night. In between moments, an androgynous figure (Kieran Dowling) pops in and seriously observing her every move. A quick sucession of events captured through fast-cut editing which goes along just fine with the enthusiastic beat of New Order, with Bernard Sumner singing his heart and voice out. If considering both medias, what they say and what they show, the connection I got from it revolves on sexual urges, to fight it out or not - the girl going out in frantic ways. Or maybe there's more than that, can't exactly touch it.

Greatly lit and well filmed but the main attraction comes from the electrifying memorable song, one of the band's greatest hits. And I'd like to think more people were introduced to it after this video, that would be nice. 6/10.
