The chorus foreshadows the events of Act 2. "I see a song of past romance" ("Suffering" - a Siren, pretending to be Penelope, tried to kill Odysseus), "I see the sacrifice of man" ("Scylla" - passing through Scylla's domain required Odysseus to sacrifice six of his men), "I see portrayals of betrayals" ("Mutiny" - Eurylochus attacks Odysseus for betraying his trust), "and a brother's final stand" ("Thunder Bringer" - Eurylochus and the crew charge at Odysseus one last time before dying to Zeus' thunderbolt), "I see you on the brink of death" ("Love in Paradise" - Odysseus falls into a deep depression and considers taking his own life), "I see you draw your final breath" ("Get in the Water" - Poseidon's attack on Odysseus ends up figuratively claiming the latter's life), "I see a man who gets to make it home alive, but it's no longer you" ("The Ithaca Saga" - Odysseus makes it back to Ithaca and reunites with Penelope and Telemachus, but he is not the same man that left 20 years ago).
