The title was chosen originally from a line Vincent says where the girls ask what he does on the weekends, replying, "I don't really do any hang-outs with anyone. On the weekends or after school, it's just me." The line never got written in due to limited space and time management.
During one of the takes where Vincent runs away, Jonah lost balance holding the camera's grip and fell. The camera wasn't completely damaged; however, Jonah found a bruise on his elbow after the fall.
Jonah has shared in an interview that the film was heavily inspired by his own experiences in high school. He also stated that he wanted to use moving shots to give off the idea that the audience is following in the main character's shoes.
The scene where Vincent moves to a lonely boy's new table in the end was so windy that, few cast and crew members were offered extra coats, originally intended for wardrobe purposes.
In the final shot of the film, Jonah directed Hayden, Alexis, Avery, and Haylee to share any crazy big stories they have to share. It was said afterward that they mainly discussed their favorite movies and musicals.
