Synopsis

  • Plato and Blake encounter a Mermaid, with a not so sweet voice. Plato and Blake are in an area of the Cosmic Caves where seemingly one or more of the caves opens into a coastal region. After wandering further in the Cosmic Caves, Plato and Blake discuss Sir Fred, his Hot Dogs, the Dragon he was meant to defeat, and the nature of the caves. Blake explains that the Cosmic Caves connect to many different worlds, and in one or more of those worlds there will be a place with Dragons, Knights and Princesses. Blake suggests the Princesses will want to "smooch" him because he is so handsome. Plato disparages Blake and Blake takes offense. After a brief argument Plato and Blake fight, in the process sliding down into still another cave, this one filled with weird whalesong music. Ending their fight, the pair pick themselves up and approach the latest cave mouth, through which can be seen a fjord or lagoon. Blake warns Plato that the sound is Mermaid song, a dangerous melody the sirens of the sea use to charm and hypnotize people. Seeing a Mermaid on a small island the pair are shocked when instead of sweet song her voice produces discordant shrieking! They discuss her inability to sing with her and Plato suggests an alternative that might reconcile her with her sisters. He suggests she tries to rap rather than sing, because "some people think rap is a kind of singing." In return she gives Plato a reward - a rainbow colored Conch Shell that can summon or generate a powerful wind blast. Plato and Blake resume their wandering.
