After unwittingly inserting himself in the middle of a sting operation, Hunter Reeves finds himself sworn in as the newest agent of The Order, an international detective and crime-fighting organization - and under the supervision, of all things, a vampire named Kai. Hunter has precious little time to adjust to his new life, complicated by the fact he and Kai are quickly falling for one another.

When Hunter is brutally stabbed in the middle of an investigation into a series of disappearances tied to a bizarre human gene mutation experimentation program, Kai is forced to make a swift decision and against The Order's protocols, turns him into a vampire. While on 'administrative leave,' Kai is then kidnapped by an operative of chaos organization The Crown - and it's up to Hunter to locate and rescue his lover.

Order agent Noah helps give Hunter a crash course in harnessing his new vampire abilities to help track Kai's whereabouts, which leads the pair to a sulfur mine in rural New Mexico. There begins an intense confrontation with Kai's captor - and the revelation that Hunter has unknowingly harbored powers never before seen by his fellow vampires or Order agents. Hunter uses this new power - the ability to physically project a target's traumatic memories for all to see - in order to defeat the kidnapper and rescue Kai.

As this segment of the Bloodbound saga ends, a recuperating Kai and Hunter take a vacation in the natural splendor of the Colorado Rockies - but Hunter notices he's being watched...
