Uranium City is a real town/community, it is one of the northernmost settlements in Saskatchewan, Canada, located at the mouth of Fredette River on Martin Lake about 760 kilometers (470 miles) northwest of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, and 48 kilometers (30 miles) south of the Northwest Territories-Saskatchewan border. Uranium City was founded as a uranium boomtown in 1952, following the discovery of a large uranium deposit in 1949, by 1954 there were 52 mines and 12 open-pit mines in operation. At first Uranium City was mostly tents, but in 1956 the provincial government passed the Municipal Corporation of Uranium City and District Act, making it an incorporated city, the population went from a few dozen in 1956, to 2,507 in 1981. Up until the mid-1960's, during the height of the Cold War, the uranium mined here was sold to the United States for nuclear weapons production, around 1965 production shifted towards fueling commercial nuclear power plants in Canada, the United States, Japan, and Western Europe. The uranium mines were played out and closed in 1982, this resulted in the economic collapse of Uranium City, as most of the community's residents were miners they wound up moving to other mining towns. In 1983 the town was unincorporated, with Uranium City becoming an "unincorporated northern settlement", the schools in the town were closed in the early 1990's, and the local hospital closed in 2003. As of 2021, the population of Uranium City was 91, with most of the residents being Métis and First Nations people.
The yellow dress Lucy wears, given to her by Hank, is heavily based on the female variation of the dapper gambler suit from Fallout: New Vegas (2010), which is given as a reward after winning over 3,750 chips at the Atomic Wrangler Casino in Freeside.
The Napoléon Bonaparte painting that hangs in Betty's Overseer's office had his face replaced with Todd Howard's, the show's producer, game director for Fallout 3 (2008) & Fallout 4 (2015), and owner of Bethesda Game Studios. The painting is a parody of Napoleon Crossing the Alps, an oil painting by Jacques Louis David, and can be built as a settlement decoration in Fallout 4 (2015).
Referring to his mind control units, Lucy comments "Well, I guess this is one way to save the world. But it's wrong", Hank replies "Perfect is the enemy of good, Lucy". Hank is quoting a common paraphrase of a quote written by French philosopher Voltaire, Voltaire used the phrase "Le mieux est l'ennemi du bien" ("the best is the enemy of the good") in his Dictionnaire philosophique (Philosophical Dictionary) written in 1764. This wasn't a true dictionary, but rather a collection of alphabetically arranged witty, radical essays, which were aimed at critiquing the Roman Catholic Church, religious intolerance, social injustice, and advocated for reason, freedom of thought, and humanitarianism. "Perfect is the enemy of good" came to be used as a proverb to mean that striving for perfection can hinder the adequate, or efficient, completion of a project or goal.
Several Easter eggs can be found on the other posters on Vault 32's cork-board, where the wedding announcement for Chet and Steph is found:
- One poster advertising marksmanship practice shows the Vault Boy as he appears on the Sniper perk card from Fallout 4 (2015) and Fallout 76 (2018).
- Another poster advertising the "ninja club" features the Vault Boy as he appears on the Ninja perk card, and a poster below it has the Vault Boy as he appears on the Action Boy perk card in Fallout 4 (2015) and Fallout 76 (2018).
- A message posted by Davey requests the return of his copy of Dean's Electronics, a skill book used to increase the player's Repair skill in Fallout (1997), Fallout 2: A Post-Nuclear Role-Playing Game (1998), Fallout Tactics (2001), Fallout 3 (2008) and Fallout: New Vegas (2010).
- A poster in the top right corner mentions a showing of the pre-War film "Night of the Fish Men's Revenge", starring Carl Dickson and Synthia Marsh. Posters for this movie, as well as clips from it, can be seen at the Eden Meadows Cinemas in Fallout 4: Far Harbor (2016) and the Starlight Interstellar Theater in Fallout 4: Nuka-World (2016). Movie posters from this film can also be built as decorations in Fallout 76 (2018).
