Cooper/The Ghoul says he found a number of Vaults specifically for "management", with several being in California and Oregon. The events of Fallout 2: A Post-Nuclear Role-Playing Game (1998) largely take place in northern California and southern Oregon, with The Chosen One (player character) originating from the village of Arroyo, located not far from the town of Klamath Falls in southern Oregon, with Klamath Falls being both a village in the game, and a town in real life. There were several vaults in this area that contained some of America's best scientists, and an oil rig off the coast of San Francisco served as a secret base for the surviving members of the United States government, including the President, who was also a member of the deep state organization known as The Enclave. By the events of Fallout (1997) in 2162, and Fallout 2: A Post-Nuclear Role-Playing Game (1998) in 2241, the oil rig served as the headquarters for the West Coast chapter of the Enclave, with Dick Richardson being the Enclave's leader in 2241 and also claiming to be the President of the United States.

Ma June has some large, purple fruit on her desk known as mutfruit, short for "mutated fruit". Mutfruit is a consumable item in Fallout (1997), Fallout 2: A Post-Nuclear Role-Playing Game (1998), Fallout 3 (2008), Fallout: New Vegas (2010), Fallout 4 (2015), and Fallout 76 (2018). Mutfruit, or Malus maatta, is a mutant hybrid species of apple and crabapple, mutated by decades and centuries of exposure to radiation, mutfruit is a common staple across the wasteland being found in New California, Mojave Wasteland, Appalachia, Capital Wasteland (D.C.) and the Commonwealth (Boston). There are several variants that can be found or grown depending on geographical location, with some being hybrids of other plants besides apples such as blackberries. Varieties include regular, irradiated, fresh, crunchy, and wild mutfruit, with fresh mutfruit appearing as a large purple fruit more akin to a large blackberry in appearance, wild mutfruit appearing smaller and purple, regular mutfruit from New California being more green and apple-like, and crunchy mutfruit being a brownish-red and apple-shaped. Mutfruit is commonly eaten and grown by both humans and ghouls, and can be used to create a variety of items ranging from omelets to super stimpaks.
