A hidden crisis has been smoldering for decades behind closed doors. No matter what the emergency service, first responders are more likely to die by their own hand than in the most dangerous jobs of our society. In fact, the suicide rate among first responders is double that of the general public. As a society, we outsource our trauma to these public servants, then wonder why they are suffering. How can we expect to live in a safe world if we don't take care of the people who are taking care of us?
