Gina was wrong when she said that chlorine can't explode when mixed with another compound. Chlorine won't explode or burn by itself, but it is highly reactive and mixing it with other substances can cause a fire or explosion.

An explosion can result when calcium hypochlorite and trichlor tablet are mixed together. Calcium hypochlorite is used as pool shock to rapidly sanitize a swimming pool. Trichlor tablets are often put in a pool chlorinator for continuous chlorine release. It would not be surprising to find both substances in a shed by a swimming pool. Careless storage of these two items could cause a fire or explosion.
