Super Connected featured on Sky News, April 2025 as "the drama that predicted the smartphone crisis" years before it became a mainstream issue, anticipating many of the concerns later explored in Channel 4s Adolescence. The story was developed before public discussion of screen addiction became widespread, making it one of the earliest dramatic works to tackle the emotional fallout of digital dependency within families.
The release of the Super Connected album in May 2023 was blocked by Apple Music, sparking global media coverage and speculation that the ban was due to the fictional iHead device featured in the album and accompanying film. The iHead, central to the album's narrative, bore striking conceptual similarities to Apple's Vision Pro headset, which was unveiled shortly after. Some news outlets claimed that artist Tim Arnold had predicted Apple's Vision Pro by designing the iHead more than five years earlier. The iHead, a surreal audio-visual headset created in collaboration with model maker Valerie Charlton (Labyrinth, Brazil, Monty Python) and visual effects lead Andrew Schlussel (Framestore), was developed in 2018 as a fictional invention by the tech company Picture Sounds within the Super Connected storyline.
At the centre of the controversy was a short track on the album titled A Commercial Break, a spoof advert narrated by actor Stephen Fry that promoted the iHead in a satirical style. Although clearly fictional and conceived in 2019, the track was cited by Apple as the reason for the album's temporary removal from its platform. Apple later clarified that the issue lay with the presence of a fake commercial on the album, rather than any perceived reference to the Vision Pro. The album was reinstated on Apple Music on 7 July 2023. Despite the resolution, the delay impacted the release schedule of the Super Connected feature film, which is still only available as part of Super Connected Live events.
