Ep 26

Emerald Hill: The Little Nyonya Story

Yao Zu's role at the family business has been reduced from being the overall company supervisor to just being the warehouse supervisor, or as he mused, the foreman. As he explained to his mother Shu Yu, his younger uncle's family are calling the shots at the company, i.e. Jin Quan, his cousins Yao Guang and Yao Liang, uncle-in-law Kang Zhi Jie.
Irony alert: Considering how Yao Guang, along with his brother Yao Liang have been accused before by their father Jin Quan early on in the series of continuing spending their time abroad having fun even after finishing studying, Yao Guang is actually aware of what was going on in the world at the time in 1970 in this episode, talking about the withdrawal of British troops in Singapore and the then-on going Vietnam War, in terms of suggesting moving the family business abroad.
The now five-year-old Yao Peng, or Yao Hui as Ah Hua has been calling him, only has good things to say of his elder cousin An Na and accused Xin Niang (who had been back at Emerald Hill but only outside of the grounds when she met with Ah Hua) of being 'fierce'. It is clear to Xin Niang that her adoptive brother has been spoiled by An Na but she could not do anything.
The first joint appearances of Yao Guang and Yao Liang, Jin Quan and Si Li's sons and An Na's elder brothers, as adults.
Xin Niang has been called Emily by the person she met early in the episode. The withdrawal of British troops from Singapore had first happened in 1969, which led to the situation she was telling Qing Shu in terms of the shop houses being sold.
