Six months after the founding of the Swedish Film Institute (SFI), the then CEO Harry Schein announced a competition to create a film award, which would be awarded to those who had made strong contributions during the year. The assignment to design the price "Guldbaggen" went to the artist Karl-Axel Pehrson, known for his fantasy landscapes and sculptures.
