August, a teenage grocery store cashier, faces a difficult choice: Does she stop and help a young, impoverished mother in need, or turn a blind eye for the sake of her job? When August meets Hannah and her baby daughter, she is compelled towards them. She sees the baby has beaten up shoes in the freezing cold winter while Hannah brings shoes to the register every day, but can't afford it. August, having a single mom who had her young, feels a need to help this woman and her baby, but she'll have to get past her complications and stresses being put on her from her autocratic boss and her mom who reminds her she'll need to be paying for college soon.
