The first part of the movie is rather derivative. Things take off when they distribute the presents : by doing it haphazardly, the wrong guest is presented with the wrong parcel : Ariane ,a clever elegant Afroamerican woman , is given "Tintin au Congo" ; then Will puts on his politically correct act ;he's not unlike Véronique in Yasmina Reza's play ,"le dieu du carnage" masterfully transferred to the screen by Polanski as "carnage "(in which Veronique becomes Penelope )...

In fact , Will is half a century behind the times: after 1968,it was considered polite to dismiss all Hergé's work; we could give him a piece of advice :open "the lotus bleu" pp 6,7,or 43 to have a taste of Hergé 's racism. When she returns ,Ariane,a very educated woman, is not upset ; she points out one precise page of the doomed album :page 6 ,where a black sailor calls Milou (Snowy) "Missié Chien " (=sir dog) ;she probably knows that Hergé had deleted his album in the sixties for fear it may displease the Congolese ,but actually the album amused the students who found the depiction so grotesque it did not hurt their feelings .

Much more revolting is Jefferson's attitude :although there's plenty of fancy food in this bourgeois house ,he orders a pizza ;though this is not underlined, it reflects ,more than a politically correct view of an album Hergé himself had disowned by a smug bourgeois , a vision of a spoilt to a fault generation .
