Carmen's birthday (November 24th) is the same day that the female counterpart to Waldo--his sister Wilma--debuted in The Ultimate Fun Book! in 1990.
Carmen is (clearly) based on the character Carmen Sandiego, both in and out of the story; she carries around a copy of the 1985 World Almanac & Book of Facts, where the first copies of the Carmen Sandiego game were originally sold with.
The characters Evangeline & Patrycja were originally to have their own series, which had been scrapped by the creator in late 2023. They eventually found a life as supporting characters in redredhat.
Tim Sutton (co-creator of Marble Hornets) appears in the pilot episode of the series as an unnamed character; many locations used in Marble Hornets appear in passing throughout redredhat, including key one-offs from Entries 13, 27, 53, 59, and 85.
