Prague, March 1945: The Allies are advancing, but the Nazi occupiers still rule the city. After the murder of a German officer's widow, Chief Inspector Beran (Karel Dobrý) and his right-hand man, Jan Morava (Jonas Nay), take on the case, which is shrouded in secrecy. Nazi commander Meckerle (Devid Striesow) suspects a subversive act of resistance. Under the watchful eye of Gestapo officer Buback (Nicholas Ofczarek), Morava embarks on a perilous mission.

Nazi commander Meckerle (Devid Striesow) is pressing for results, but in another, highly delicate matter, he's relying entirely on Buback (Nicholas Ofczarek): The Gestapo officer has to stand in for him as the evening companion of his secret lover, actress Marleen Baumann (Jeanette Hain). Meanwhile, the series of crimes continues - and investigator Morava (Jonas Nay) decides to set a trap for the "widow killer." His colleague and fiancée Jitka (Diana Dulinková) volunteers to act as bait.

In the chaos of the street battles, the fugitive "Widow Killer" (Gerhard Liebmann) changes his identity to escape. In doing so, he makes a mistake that puts Morava (Jonas Nay) on his trail.
