This short was a "trial run" for the filmmakers, who hoped to expand the story of Wally and Sugar Baby into a feature, entitled "Down and Yonder."
Though never mentioned in the film, Wally's surname is "Angstrom." He was named this in homage to Harry Angstrom, the lead character from John Updike's "Rabbit, Run."
