This French documentary is just wonderful. It does say a lot about the musician's personal life, up to the discovery of his home in Arceuil, a place where no one had ever set foot before his death. What is most interesting about it, are the interviews of some famous French artists and friends (Jean Cocteau, being one of them) and of performers or music teachers, who, without being too savant, make things very clear on the paramount importance of Satie in the music field, his experimentations having lead to ambient and minimalism. One can also see John Cage playing Vexations and some sort of video clip - the only one where one can see Satie alive and kicking - in the company of Francis Picabia, with a canon and shelling the old classical music which he detested - who did not like him much ! The one and only drawback about the documentary is that it comes without English subtiles. It definitely should.
