Bob Monkhouse in Wipeout (1994)

Trivia

Episode #9.32

Wipeout

Bob Monkhouse didn't generally go in for race-based humour, so there's what might be a surprising moment at the start of this edition, particularly for the era.

When a contestant tells Bob a story about a hair dye gone wrong, Bob puts on a mock-East Asian accent and remarks that "some Orientals" might have said "you were just too big for your bleaches".
Bob often makes disparaging jokes about members of the technical crew, with their names viewable on the end credits.

However, with only Bob Moss credited under the camera team (as Camera Supervisor) it's not known who Bob is referring to when he talks of "Tony" on camera five, with some teasing jokes in his direction.
Bob's frequent habit of revealing answers before the board does is very much in evidence in this edition.

Not only does he explicitly call out correct answers and Wipeouts before they're revealed, but he even gives away three answers in an Auction Grid before the contestants have time to play it. Introducing an Auction Grid on nicknames for US States, Bob says: "Some of those seem rather familiar, from the Empire State, Sunshine State, through to... the Garden State, Lone Star State. How many of the eight correct answers do you think you can spot?"

Although all four States cited by Bob are correct answers, the bidding only goes up to 5, and, surprisingly, only one of Bob's clues is picked as an option.
