"An Old Taboo" (Een Oud Taboe) (1983) is a groundbreaking docu-drama that follows Lex, who discovers he has a sexually transmitted disease. The film captures his journey from doctor visits and informing his partners and family, to treatment and, ultimately, healing. A bold exploration of stigma and health, this was the first in a series of medically themed films by Molenaar and Van Wijk, combining Van Wijk's medical background with Molenaar's activism in the women's liberation movement. An Old Taboo challenges societal norms and opens a conversation about sexual health and responsibility.
