Michael Ray in Wipeout (1994)

Trivia

Episode #6.66

Wipeout

The grid subjects featured on this edition are:

Main Grids: Numerical hit singles; Varieties of potato.

Auction Grids: Celebrities who became politicians; UK airports; Egg laying creatures.

Final Grid: Michael Caine movies.
There's an exceptionally racy joke, possibly unintended, in this edition when Bob speaks to contestant Michael Ray.

When Michael tells him that what he does for fun is "horses", Bob gets him to expand on the statement, saying "What do you do with horses?" before chuckling and asking the question a second time.

Unfortunately the post-dubbed "studio audience" provides laughter after the statement, making it even more of an explicit "joke" than it would have been in the studio. The upshot is that a 9:45am TV audience are treated to Bob seemingly accusing a contestant of bestiality.
There's a somewhat stilted atmosphere throughout this edition. Although Eve Mcelhaney is bubbly, the two male contestants are a lot more reserved, particularly Michael Ray, who gives one-word responses throughout much of the show (including Bob's introductory chat) and rarely smiles. It would appear that the contestants weren't suitably "warmed up" for this edition, and were perhaps feeling self conscious on camera.
Bob changes his sign-off catchphrase on this edition.

Whereas the majority of episodes would see him deliver a joke or philosophical musing, followed by the phrase "wipes me out!", here he talks about people knowing what you're going to do before you do it. This is then followed by what appears to be "Just to wipe you out!", though the line is almost drowned out by canned laughter.
A Wipeout answer on a final grid about Michael Caine movies is "The Charge of the Light Brigade". However, as more than one film has been released with that title, and a particular version isn't specified, this isn't included under Movie Connections.
