The College Gridiron Showcase allows young men to audition for dream jobs in pro football. These underdogs have fought through a lot to even get this far, and hope lessons learned through adversity will launch them into a career they love.

All of the players at the 2024 College Gridiron Showcase seem to have what one described as a "chip on your shoulder," feeling that they have the talent to go pro but just need to get a chance. Some have already taken non-traditional paths to compete at the college level and overcome significant obstacles to do so. Many have moved between schools and found their team sport could create common ground. One player who had changed schools multiple times describes himself as "a chameleon in a sense" because he absorbed knowledge from those with whom he played. Some players took the lessons of teamwork they learned through the game into the community, contributing to philanthropic endeavors. One attendee even created a guidebook for his fellow college athletes to help them take advantage of their opportunities. Other players got advice from family who have worked in the game. And many have started their own families and want to ensure they can shoulder the related responsibilities. They long to do so while also holding their dream jobs as professional football players.

Aspiring pro football players know people are watching them as they compete at the College Gridiron Showcase. Indeed, they welcome the pressure of scouts' eyes on them because they know it could lead them to their dream jobs straight out of college.

They hope their university athletic experiences, with big crowds and built-in pressures, prepared them for this situation. Many went to smaller schools, however, like the Ivy League or Division II levels. They especially need a venue in which to show evaluators what they can do. If they don't make it, they'll have to find a way to make a living outside of football. Some have already experienced the adult world, through family tragedy or other misfortune.

Scouts want to know about a player's journey, including why they might have switched schools Some went up levels, like the O-lineman who went from the NAIA to Purdue in the Football Bowl Subdivision or the D-lineman who overcame what he describes as a "gruesome" injury to still move from the Group of Five to TCU in the Big 12. Others moved down in classification.
