Bob starts this edition by saying he'd been to a lottery winners event where a farmer had told him he'd planned to carry on farming and not spend the money. Although presented as a joke, it appears to have some truth behind it, as in a diary entry dated 4th February 1998 Bob noted saying the same joke at an after-dinner speech.

Last year we won £4 million all but a couple of thousand. We're both in our sixties and our only son's settled in Australia so we sort of carried on, so to speak. Didn't let the money change us. Took a bit of stupid pride in it, as a matter of fact. [...] 'So we've just this last twenty minutes talked it over and we're going to sell up and go to Australia to see our grandchildren!'"

The reality was he was telling his jokes only to the contestants and the technical crew.

A moment that would be unlikely to happen in the modern age is Bob's reaction to a contestant with an East Asian background choosing "Tokyo" as an answer: "Well it's that, umm, oriental, exotic touch that you have".
