Shirley Chung in Wipeout (1994)

Trivia

Episode #5.61

Wipeout

There's a slightly racy gag for a 12:35pm midday audience when a contestant incorrectly guesses that "Morlocks" appeared in The Lord of the Rings.

Bob refers to their prize fund being wiped out as "a severe kick in the Morlocks".
Bob's habit of discussing answers before the board reveals whether they're wrong or right is again in evidence in this edition.

At one point contestant Harriet Firth is questioned on her guess in a grid about cakes, with Bob saying: "Do you think Madeira is a fruit cake...?" Bob's reaction causes her to laugh and say "I did, but not anymore now."
Bob ends editions of his run by telling a joke, then adding "wipes me out".

This is adjusted for this edition, where he tells a joke about cheating husbands, saying to the wives watching: "Just don't wipe him out".
Announcer George Layton's voiceover doesn't introduce the contestants in the usual left-to-right sequence, but instead leaves the centre contestant until last.
The grid subjects featured on this edition are:

Main Grids: Characters from The Lord of the Rings; Fruit cakes.

Auction Grids: Soap stars who have had a UK Top 20 hit; Famous philosophers; Horses that have won the Derby.

Final Grid: Writers born in Ireland.
