Andrew Scott, Keith Crane, and Karen Eastwood in Wipeout (1994)

Trivia

Episode #5.56

Wipeout

This edition was recorded on 7th February 1998.
Bob usually signs off most editions with a quip or saying, followed by "That wipes me out!".

This edition sees him change his usual phrase when talking about arguments: "They can wipe you out!"
The subject of the third Auction Grid - presenters from Blue Peter (1958) - had previously been used as the final grid in Episode #1.4 (1994).

However, only three of the options - Leila Williams, Anthea Turner and the Wipeout answer of Tommy Boyd - were the same.

What's notable is that this later version largely used presenters from a more modern era of the series, with all eight presenters - excluding original presenter Leila Williams - taking part in the show from 1978 to 1996. The original version of the grid saw five of the six presenters (the final grid having less correct options than an Auction Grid) involved in the series no later than 1979.
The subject of the final grid - Comic characters that are over 60 years old - had previously been used as an Auction Grid in Episode #3.8 (1995).

The reuse of the grid saw 8 of the same 12 options appear, though the subject was originally comic characters over 50 years old, not 60. A probable reason for this is that one of the "Wipeout" options - Biffo the Bear - had turned 50 two weeks before the recording of this episode, and three months before its broadcast date.
The grid subjects featured on this edition are:

Main Grids: Countries with Queen Elizabeth II as their constitutional monarch as of the start of 1998; Board games.

Auction Grids: Musical terms; Sports played by teams with more than 11 players; Blue Peter presenters.

Final Grid: Comicbook characters around since before 1939.
