Bob Monkhouse in Wipeout (1994)

Trivia

Episode #5.36

Wipeout

This is one of forty episodes from the fifth series where Bob physically demonstrates the game board during the final.

However, while the vast majority of those instances saw Bob press an example answer that later turned out to be correct, this is one of just two - along with Episode #5.53 (1998) - where he selects an incorrect answer.

In fairness, the grid subject, Kings born in England, is one of more difficult final games, so it's possible Bob genuinely didn't know an answer when he pressed Henry II.
With the final game being "History", Bob remarks that "Nobody's ever picked History, that I can remember."

The category actually hadn't been given as an option that often in the fifth series, with just 15 appearances. Of those appearances, it was chosen just 3 times, including this instance.

However, while generally unchosen, Bob had experienced it being picked, as it happened in Episode #5.38 (1998). While this edition aired the following week, it was actually the first that Bob recorded. Viewers would also have seen it happen before this in Episode #5.26 (1998), though in that instance the episode was recorded after this one.
The grid subjects featured on this edition are:

Main Grids: Dances; Books written by D.H. Lawrence.

Auction Grids: Film characters played by Michael Caine; Countries that drive on the left.

Final Grid: Kings born in England.
The second Auction Grid - countries that drive on the left - would be reused as an Auction Grid in Episode #6.11 (1998).

However, only four of the answers were the same on both grids: Bahamas, Belize, Japan and Malaysia.
