The contestants on this edition are more withdrawn than average, with the qualifying contestant saying they're shaking and nervous. As a result Paul seems more forceful and vocal than usual, as if trying to up the atmosphere. He also doesn't shout out much in the way of advice for the final game, seemingly to not make them even more anxious. (Although he does say "That seems dumb to me", causing the contestant to deselect their incorrect answer of "dumb".)

In 2014 Daniels recorded some short promos for Challenge TV, who were reshowing the series. As part of his recollections, Paul noted: "So I used to meet all the contestants before the shows. Errrrrrr... and run them through the shows. Took time, but worth doing. Then they're more relaxed in the studio. Some still stay a bit uptight, of course."

Paul tells the two qualifying contestants in the first round that they're going to "play for the holiday".

As both contestants still needed to pass the second qualifying round, then strictly speaking neither of them were playing for the holiday at that stage.
