Trivia

Ep 9

Emerald Hill: The Little Nyonya Story

The three Chinese names (Lim Boon Keng, Song Ong Siang, Khoo Seok Wan) that the young Xin Niang wrote down in the flashback scene after getting back from school are the three founders of Singapore Chinese Girls' School, the very people whose photos she saw outside the classroom detailing the school's history back in Ep 8 (2025). It turns out that Shu Qin, while going through the names of the people the young Xin Niang wrote, also attended the same school.
In the midst of Jin Quan's mistress and the boy showing up at the Zhang family mansion, Si Li pointed out aloud how the law only allows monogamous marriage and she would not allow the mistress around the house. She would be having the Women's Charter in mind, which first came into effect in 1961 in Singapore, where on the issue of marriage, it only provides for monogamous marriages and for the solemnisation and registration of such.
