Loved the documentary. It gives an non-patronizing, unsentimental view of the life and struggles of the fishermen, while still honouring the beauty of the people and the place through a sometimes poetic cinematography. Reminded me of Vittorio De Seta's 50s documentary series "The Lost World", in particular when it shows the collaboration and communal life of the fishermen beyond the difficulty of their situation. The observational character of the documentary leaves it to the audience to make their own judgement, while gently steering it through the visual narrative choices. It also looks like the effort made to befriend and gain the trust of the community was successful, and that the director truly saw his "subjects" as peers, avoiding any objectification, which I appreciated.
