This really is just an excuse to go back to the dawn of the 20th Century and see off Queen Victoria, showcase some well dug out archive and set the scene for the exploration of the vastness of Persia for oil. It's told via a narration taken, partly, from some letters of the man granted an exclusive mandate to go looking. The team was led by D. B. It's quite a testament to their endurance and perseverance that they stick it that long, but I suppose they thought the riches were likely worth it. Success! Camel caravans are soon dispossessed by waste burning fires and oil is found. Now how to get it to market. Indeed, what market was there? Maybe the Royal Navy could be tempted away from coal? Ask Winston? If so, how to get the stuff to the coast and onwards? Extensive pipeline construction over the barren terrain is required, again involving considerable manpower and that's also well demonstrated by the informative archive. Twelve years it took to get the oil from the original licences to it's scalable exploitation - just in time for the start of the Great war and an even greater demand for the petrol engine, and it's fuel. An industry feeding machines all across the world even after the war was born.
