From a plantation land, it became predominantly known as where the wealthy Chinese and Straits-Chinese, or known as the Peranakans reside at the turn of the 20th century till the 1950s (also around the time when the drama series starts), and the architecture is a reflection of its dwellers in those times.

Though Jeanette Aw is the only person reprising her role from the original series Xiao niang re (2008), Chantalle Ng recalled in interviews of visiting the set of Xiao niang re (2008) as a child as her mother Meijiao Lin was in the original series. Mei Jiao's turn as Lin Gui Hua was known for her antagonistic tendencies especially towards Aw's Yueniang.
