A small budget indie film that is a good example of the type of movie in which the parts are better than the whole. The images of a deserted Sydney are excellent, reminded me of "The Omega Man" (1971) and "The Quiet Earth" (1985) and are some genuinely creepy sequences which function on the level of the noise at 3:00 A. M. while home alone. However, such things can only take a movie so far and it doesn't take long before the story begins to wander.

It feels like an expanded student film project in which the young filmmaker demonstrates they can set up shots, editing, lighting and so on, but in which the story is secondary - mainly because there simply isn't enough budget. So, the movie goes with the whole "what do you think it means?" approach. It also falls back on the timeworn romantic triangle trope (see: "The quiet Earth" (1985)) which grows tiresome in a few short minutes.

The end result is a movie that has a few great moments but spends most of the time spinning its wheels. If the director goes on to have a successful career (ala Christopher Nolan) this debut effort will become a fun little discussion piece in which movie buffs will watch to see sparks of future greatness.
